How long does it take a DSL modem to “train” for my service?

by DSLModem on May 14, 2010

I just signed up for AT & T DSL service. I just bought my friends ActionTec GT701 modem (originally for use with Qwest) instead of paying $ 70 for AT & T modem.Quand we connect the DSL light just flashed on and on. The manual says: "The DSL indicator lights when the modem is connected to a DSL line. When flashing, the modem is training for his service DSL.Après ten minutes of flashing light, I guess it would not work and cancel the test . But now I wonder if I waited long enough. I remember the cable boxes may be necessary in line for hours before starting time travailler.Combien normally take for this type of modem to train for my DSL service ? Any other thoughts on things I could do to use a modem and AT & T Qwest bienvenu.Cela also been three weeks that the service has been activated. I've been busy with other things and I'm watching right now. I can measure the line voltage, so I'm sure you've signed up for DSL accroché.Je Elite for $ 45 a month. I know it is available for less in the website of AT & T, but not my address. The representative AT & T customer service told me it would be $ 45/mo and the modem is $ 70 extra. I could send them, or buy it at Best Buys.On told me that most any DSL modem should work if configured properly, but AT & T does not provide customer support unless you purchase a modem. With so many modems used spinning, I'd rather not buy one again. Except as required.

It’s more like the carrier has to identify the device as “welcome” on it’s network. if this modem is not assigned to you as a customer or recognized as a device that’s supposed to be there sending and receiving data from them then it’s not going to work.

have you called them and let them know you put this device in?

Usually the modem is free and they even offer a free upgrade to a router. Did you get the cheapest package they offer?

There are many different DSL technologies. The Qwest may not be compatible with what AT&T is offering. The modem should see the service within a minute or two. Usually the long delay in a cable modem is the provisioning of it. AT&T also uses PPPoE, have you setup an account yet. The AT&T equipment usually has a wizard in the modem or router so you don’t need to use the install CD.

When you say you just signed up for the service, have they actually installed it yet or did you just complete the order online yesterday?
