Issues connecting MR814v2 802.11b wireless router to Actiontec GT701 dsl Modem?

I can not use a laptop to connect through the router via DSL modem. There are times when the laptop can connect and am able to surf the net, but I lose my connection to my desktop and vice versa. Could it be that my Actiontec DSL modem is not compatible with a wireless connection? Qwest is starting to irritate me. The game of DHCP DSL modem on my desktop and of course his game in the TCP / IP to automatically obtain an IP Addy course. I think I'm missing something in the configuration of the Netgear router. It also appears once you get a team through the wireless router, my internet connection is closed afterawhile.
